My name is Israel Santos and I currently live in Milwaukee. I have an amazing background of my ethnicities that inspire me to be where I am today. Ever since I was a young I had a passion for art. I began my experience by painting magnetic figures that were on the fridge because, they had many hues and were very eye catching and also having rage for sketching face characteristics. My passion for art came from my grandpa from my mom’s side, whom was dedicated to portray what he only saw on still life animals. My dad also tends to be creative in any medium but majorly he enjoys painting houses. Where I come from there is motivation that I get from my loving family always keeps inspiring me to reach for more in life.
When everything began it was all about oil paints, brushes and paper. I would stay at home because my parents were always working and I didn’t want to be bored therefore I picked up some art tools. Unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to try other mediums for my beginning artistic skills. It came later in life the time that I attended middle school. There I was more into sketching and coloring. I always thought that things were too solid. Until I had the chance to get to high school and I was taught how to make clay pottery from scratch, plaster sculptures and skills to become much successful in my sketches. Yes, I was in high school but I had to adapt quickly to getting things done on time and diving into what I wanted to learn during those years. Taking a glance at my work I saw that it began to look more intense when I entered the IB Fine Arts that is very rigorous. There I had to search for inspirations, record all I did in my IWB and create what I had recorded before with the knowledge that I had acquires based on the history that I found. My work was getting to the point where it was reflecting upon who I am. The hues were and are bright; the paintings were done with an intense meaning. I don’t know if it’s a theme or anything but I’m excited to see where it leads me to. Even though I fear always on what’s going to happen to my art after I graduate? Am I going to keep my work? Am I going to lose it? Who knows time will let me know eventually. In the works that I have created I try to emphasize the society that surrounds me and how it impacts me or others. Some of the artists that I have being inspired lots are Alfredo Arreguin, Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso. I enjoy working with patterns such as Arreguin does it, Warhol’s use of repetitions with variety of hues, Van Gogh has a talent of creating a movement on the entire painting making it more eye catching to the viewer, Monet he has the skills of keeping the black hue mostly out of his painting and using bright colors, and Picasso I am astonished by the cubism that he had started its relevant to what I would want to experiment. With the combination of these five artists I try to experiment creations that catch peoples’ eyes and even make statements to what surrounds us daily. In order to keep having this work that I have done I need to master my art skills much more and use also more mediums to reassemble experimentation much more. After, I obtain most of the skills I want to go into civil engineering or neurosurgeon. I say civil engineering because I have a passion for hands on 3D experiments or neurosurgeon because I would help people and create designs for my job something that wouldn’t cause me to get stressed out even mad.
Art has reached a point of my life that made it become a piece of my mind, and it has given me the chance to express feelings and ideas on canvas, statues, and paper. I have in mind to keep things going in the correct direction like they are now and become a great artist in my career yet to live.
